The city's name comes from the Chinese characters 大(dae) and 田(jeon), which means “great field” Daejeon is the fifth largest city in Korea after Seoul, Busan, Daegu, and Incheon with a population of approximately 1.5 million people on an area of 540㎢(the total area of the Korean peninsula is 222,154㎢). Currently there are 7 metropolitan cities in Korea. Located in the center of Korea, Daejeon serves as a hub of transportation. Major expressways and railways connecting the country from the north to south converge in Daejeon. With this wonderful transportation network, it is possible to travel to anywhere in the country within half a day from Daejeon.

-Daejeon City has an intelligent transportation system which placed a monitor at each bus stop for passengers to check the arrival time of the next bus.
-Passengers holding a traffic card can transfer to another bus or subway three times within 80min from the first boarding at no additional cost.

Free interpretation Service in Taxi

A special interpretation service is provided in some taxis with “Free Interpretation” stickers on the window. Three-way simultaneous communication is possible between the passenger, the driver and an interpreter in English, Japanese or Chinese through a mobile phone installed in the taxi. -Basic fare : 2300won

Daecheong Lake▶

The Deacheong Lake is home to migratory birds and resident birds. In the summer, in the upper part of the Lake, white herons are easily seen. From the observatory, visitors can see the magnificent views around the lake, and the Water Promotion Hall which opened in 1998 and accommodates a 3D image hall and an aquarium. Around the Deacheong Lake, there are other tourist attractions such as Geumgang River Park, Gangge Tourist Attraction, Munyi Cultural Sites.

The Meaning of Deajeon EXPO 1993: Expo is one of the three world events including Olympics and FIFA World Cup. Deajeon Expo 1993 was the first expo held in the developing country approved by BIE. Dongchundang House▶

「Dongchun」 means 「lively spring.」 Here,Song educated the talents and studied. It is an example of the special buildings of the late Josun Dynasty. Dongchundan Culture Festival: This traditional culture festival was started in 1996 and is held every April around the Dongchundang area. It was established to increase the understanding of traditional culture and unify the community through an exciting festival.

Yuseong Hot spring▶

The Yuseong Hot Spring is located in Bomyeongdong, Yuseonggu of Deajeon City. Yuseong is famous for hot springs. According to legends, wounded soldiers of Baekje Dynasty were healed after taking a bath here. Many kings and presidents including the first King of Josun Dynasty, Lee Seongge stayed here for their vacation.
