Daegu is a city with a long history of Korean tradition and a rich cultural heritage. It is located in the southeastern area of the Korean Peninsula with a population of two and a half million. The City of Daegu is strong in such industries as fashion and textiles, machinery and optical products. The city opens many exhibitions related to the fashion and textile industries including the Daegu Fashion Fair and Preview in Daegu annually or semi-annually, and invites national institutes.

How do I get to Daegu?

Daegu is officially the Metropolitan City and the fourth largest city after Seoul, Busan, Incheon. It takes 4 hours to Seoul by train and express bus. If you want to go to Daegu faster from Seou Station, you can take a KTX(Korean Train Express) which is South Korea's high-speed rail system and it only takes 2 hours.

How is the people like?

They speak Daegu dialect, so when you listen to their conversation, you might notice their strong accent and it sounds like they are arguing, but you don’t have to worry about it because it just the way how they speak and they are very kind and friendly.

How can I use public transportation?

Subway & Bus

There are two heavy subway lines in the city. Line 1 crosses the city from northeast to southwest, while Line 2 crosses from west to east.

Flat Mandu & Gukbap

[Flat Mandu] It’s very unique Mandu(dumpling) without any taste. Only very small amounts of starch noodles, leeks, carrots, and cabbages are used as filling per each piece of this popular version of mandu. You can only try this in Daegu.

[Gukbap] The soup is made by boiling the bones and guts overnight then to add leeks, radishes, hot red pepper powder, and crushed garlic to give hot, spicy but at the same time refreshing flavor. It represents the most popular taste of hot-spicy flavor among the foods of Daegu.

Fried Makchang & Raw beef lump

[Fried Makchang] It goes better with liquor than rice as a sub dish. The citizens of Daegu have been enjoying Makchang, the 4th stomach of an ox fried over coal or charcoal and seasoned with special bean sauces.

[Raw beef lump] The sliced raw beef with seasoning is enjoyed in other parts of Korea as well. But it is unique in Daegu to have a fresh lump of raw beef with spicy seasoning as a sub dish for Soju, Korean liquor.
